MIDENO Highlights 2024 Achievements, Charts Bold Course for Regional Transformation!

The North West Development Authority (MIDENO) has capped off 2024 with a celebration of impactful achievements and ambitious plans for 2025. At its annual press conference on December 4, 2024, held at the Epic Center in Bamenda, General Manager Cletus Anye Matoyah commended the staff for their relentless efforts, showcasing a year of innovation, growth, and resilience. Among the year’s standout accomplishments was MIDENO’s implementation of the Emergency Project to Combat Food Crisis in Cameroon (PULCCA). Backed by a 4.9 billion FCFA World Bank grant, the project has empowered over 10,000 farmers with improved seeds such as cassava, maize, potatoes, plantains, and vegetables. Forty tons of these seeds were distributed, with each farmer receiving three kilograms free of charge, while additional seeds were sold at subsidized rates to encourage broader adoption. The Rice Value Chain Development Project (RVCDP) recently held its 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Baffousam, West Region Cameroon. Ntambang Community Members Schooled on Rape, GBV, Sexual Assault!

As part of activities under the “Adjust For Me” Project implemented in some four local council areas in Bamenda, Community members at the Ntambang locality continue to receive sensitization on Sexual Reproduction Health topics like GBV, Rape, Toxic Masculinity, Sexual Assault, FGM, among others. Community Spokesperson under the project recently carried out a sensitization campaign on GBV, Sexual Assault and its effects on pupils at the Government Practising School Old Town. During conversations, pupils were advised to report every form of abuse/assault to their teachers or parents so as to avoid any damage whatsoever. Ntambeng Community Members Trained on Toxic Masculinity/Fair Inheritance/SRHR Members of Ntambang Community have been trained on Toxic Masculinity, Sexual Reproduction Health Rights, Fair Inheritance and Parental Responsibility. The training that held through training sessions, door to door visits and orientation was carried out by Community spokespersons under the Adjust for me Project” implemented by COMAGEND. A participant, Audu Hawa had the following to say after the training of women and youths on GBV, SRHR and Toxic Masculinity “Parents please observe your children and make sure you donnot allow male and female children sleep in a single room or bath together. Ntambang Community Leaders, Women, Youths Receive Training on FGM, GBV, Harmful Practices!

Some Religious Leaders, Councillors, parents and youths at the Ntambang neighborhood in Bamenda II have received trainings on Sexual Reproduction Health (SRH) issues like Toxic Masculinity, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Gender Based Violence (GBV), among others. These are part of activities under the “Adjust For Me” Project under execution in some Four (4) Local Council Areas in Bamenda. The series of campaigns carried out by Community Spokespersons assigned by Common Action for Gender Development (COMAGEND) in the Ntambag neighbourhood are geared towards encouraging open conversations about sex Education, body autonomy and discouraging excessive dowries that objectify girls.  The sessions held at Council Halls, Mosques and at door to door levels provided a platform for Community spokespersons to interact with participants on a one on one bases to discuss SRHR issues. Bamenda II Council/Brampton City Council Sign Cooperation Agreement in Ontario Canada!!

After close to two years of lobbying and negotiations between the Bamenda II and Brampton Councils, a Cooperation Agreement was signed Thursday August 22, 2024 in Ontario Canada.  Mayor Patrick Brown & Mayor Chenwi Peter brandishing the Signed Agreement.  The win win agreement according to Mayor Chenwi Peter will benefit both Councils in diverse ways as the areas of Cooperation include the following; - Manpower and Human Resource Development, - ⁠Agriculture, Rural Development  - ⁠Education, Waste Management - ⁠Tourism, Environment and Climate Change, - ⁠Road maintainance, Council Management, amongst others. MINADER Launches PULCCA Project to Advance Food Security, Climate Resilience!!

In a bid to address the growing food crisis in Cameroon, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe, officially launched the Emergency Project to Combat Food Crises in Cameroon (PULCCA) in Bamenda, North West Region. The Project to run from 2023 to 2025 is poised to significantly benefit local farmers by providing them with essential agricultural inputs and tools aimed at enhancing food production and building resilience against climate shocks. H.E GABRIEL MBAIROBE Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Financed by a 59 Billion World Bank loan with additional 1.48 Billion FCFA state funding, the project targets six food crisis-affected Regions in Cameroon, including the North West.
